Kogi Adopts Geographic Information System, GIS To Boost Security

By Ola Simon, LOKOJA/The Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Land, Hajiah Mariam Ladi Ibrahim has lauded the state government policy towards providing amenities for the development of the state. She added that the newly established Kogi State Geographic Information System (GIS) is a scientific inventory that will boost the internally generated revenue and produced necessary information needed for the creation of a modern society.

Governor Yahaya envoy stated this in Lokoja while addressing the ad hoc staff of the centre who were drawn from the twenty five constituency of the state.

Hajiah Ibrahim who disclosed that GIS would be commissioned by Governor Yahaya Bello on Monday urged the staff to see their appointment as a rare privilege that requires hard work diligence and sincerity at their duty post.

She thanked Governor Bello for granting the approval for the establishment of the GIS and expressed hope that the digitalisation of the land administration provide quick asses to information on land and its use.

In a remark, the consultant to the GIS, Mr Tobi Sowole rated the information system as one of the  best in the country noting that it could address all the fundamental areas of infrastructure particularly in the aspect of records.

He explained that the proper documentation of land and surface property would assist in the area of revenue generation, elimination of fraud and urban decay as well as the provision of information for security purposes.
