U.S Senate poised to break budget impasse, paving way for government to reopen
Senate Democrats are expected to join with Republicans Monday to approve a short-term spending bill to fund the government through Feb. 8, according to several Senate Democrats. House GOP leaders signaled they would back the measure, likely as soon as later Monday.
Democrats and some Republicans had been seeking ironclad assurances from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) of a vote on immigration policy in the coming weeks in exchange for reopening the government. It is unclear exactly what assurances they received.
The vote came as the shutdown entered its third day, the start of the workweek
