PARENTS WARNED TO DESIST FROM ENGAGING STUDENTS IN APPRENTICESHIP
Parents and Guardians of students in the State public secondary schools have been warned to desist from engaging their children and wards in part-time secondary education by engaging them in trade apprenticeship.
Chairman, Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Chief (Mrs.) Olabosipo Ogunsan gave this charge during an unscheduled assessment tour to schools in order to monitor teachers’ attendance and performance, expressing satisfaction at the level of their attendance, punctuality and dedication to work.
Ogunsan said that Government had made huge investment in the education sector with the provision of human resources, infrastructures and instructional materials, frowning at the practice of parents encouraging their children in combining schooling with apprenticeship as education remained paramount in the agenda of the present administration.
“I am most delighted that my teachers are at work, from what I have seen in all the schools visited so far, but I am sad that parents are engaging their children in part-time study. They should stop the act of making students attend school and trade apprenticeship at the same time. These children should be encouraged to study hard and focus on their secondary education so that Government’s investment in education will not be a waste’’ she said.
Responding, the Principal, Makun High School, Mr Gabriel Adeniyi commended the TESCOM team for the visit, saying this would encourage teachers to be on their toes at all times.
Schools visited include Methodist High School and Agbele Community High School in Remo zone of the State.
