Ganduje begins work on N36b waste recycling plant

Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano State on Saturday inaugurated the construction of waste recycling plant worth over N36 billion.

The governor laid the foundation stone for the project at Kawo village in Gabasawa Local Government Area of the state.

Ganduje said the plant would be constructed in collaboration with a firm called Shara Dukiya and waste services international limited.

The governor said when completed the project will be converting solid waste raw materials to fertiliser, which would also provide employment opportunities to 10,000 people.

According to him, if the plant becomes fully operational, waste management problems in the state will come to an end.

Ganduje called on residents to fully utilise the opportunity.

He said that the project would cost over $ 110 million, which is equivalent to N36 billion.

The governor said that the company would pay for the waste generated from the general public, individuals, as well as waste disposal companies.Ganduje

The governor explained that the project would be executed under Public-Private-Partnership, (PPP) arrangement.

In a remark, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, represented by the District Head of Gabasawa, Bello Abubakar, thanked the company and state government for the project.

The Emir, however, called on the residents to take advantage of the project in their area to become self reliant and keep their environment clean
