Kebbi Govt. to reform education sector –Gov. Bagudu

The Kebbi Government will introduce reforms in all levels of education in the state to address inherent problems in the sector, Gov. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has said.

The governor made the statement on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi in his address at the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the creation of the state.

He said that education was the bedrock of development hence the resolve of his administration to rejuvenate the sector.

Bagudu decried the poor quality and attitude of some teachers in public schools.

He said that some of them have fake certificates while other does not attend classes.

He said that government would constitute a stakeholders “consensus committee’’ on education, adding that government would also declare emergency on education.

Bagudu announced that his administration would recruit more teachers, provide equipment for the schools and improve teachers’ welfare.

He said that the anniversary calls for joy and regrets due to the glaring realities on ground especially the state of education in the state.

The governor also spoke of his determination to reform local government system in the state by stamping out corruption.

In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III, urged the people to intensify efforts in agriculture.

He expressed concern at rampant cases of smuggling of local rice produced in the state to the neighbouring Niger and Benin Republics.

Stressing that food security was paramount to the existence of any nation; the sultan urged the government to control smuggling of rice especially now that there was restriction on importation of the commodity.

Dignitaries who attended the occasion included the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar, the Emir of Yauri, Dr Zaiyyanu Abdullahi and Emir of Argungu Alhaji Samaila Mera.

Others are: the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Sani Sami, the deputy governors of Sokoto and Zamfara States, politicians, academicians and top government functionaries.
