PVC-Naija Discusses Next Nigerian President
COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE CONFLUENCE, A PUBLIC SYMPOSIUM ORGANISED BY PVC.NAIJA ON THE 10TH FEBRUARY, 2019 AT CITI-HEIGHT HOTEL, IKEJA, LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA
PVC-Naija, a socio-political group with focus on public enlightenment on national issues, at public symposium with the theme “THE PRESIDENT AS CEO & C-In-C, 2019-2023; LEADINGNIGERIA THROUGH RESTRUCTURING held at CITI-HEIGHT HOTEL, IKEJA, LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA ON THE 10TH FEBRUARY, 2019, considered several issues of urgent national interest including but not limited to the search for idea political leader that manage our plural society in Nigeria, issue of how to achieve viable institutional framework to manage our diversity, the issue of restructuring and role of the 9th national assembly in leading the nation through restructuring.
The meeting/participants carefully considered the issues and resolved as follows.
1.1 THE PRESIDENT AS CEO & C-In-C, 2019-2023
That the nation needs leaders that can manage our diversity especially as we approach the elections with so many ethno-religious rhetorics capable of undermining national unity.
The confluence noted that managing our diverse society in 2019 through 2023, needs a leader that is of sound mind, verifiable educational qualification, business minded and relatively exposed to appreciate diversity and work for the interest of the nation.
The confluence frown at the lopsided political patronage that appear to magnify the ‘primordial-civic public’ divide in our nation and urged that steps be taken by government to embrace inclusive governance to birth a cohesive nation that would benefit all.
The confluence consequently urged Nigerians to support leaders of their choice, especially those with all it takes to manage our plural society
1.2 ISSUE OF RESTRUCTURING
The confluence noted that running of our governance system without regards for principles of equity in both political appointment and resource distribution, fuels call for restructuring of the Nigerian federal system.
The confluence also decried the toxic patronage politics that have flipped equity and distributive justice in our nation to the chagrin of national unity.
The confluence called on government to allow merit rather sectional consideration, determine who get what, when and how in the Nigerian political system.
The confluence therefore called on the government to support total restructuring of the Nigerian federal system to unleash hidden potentials of the component units for national development.
The confluence therefore resolved to support the government in the enlightenment campaign to garner needed support to faithfully restructure the Nigerian federal system for optimum performance
1.3 Role of the 9th national assembly in leading the nation through restructuring
The confluence noted that the National Assembly has a big role to play in pushing the restructuring agenda through in 2019-2023.
The confluence therefore resolved to work with members of the NA to achieve this noble objective needed to unleash our country’s potentials for greatness.
