AGBADO/OKE-ODO HOLDS MAIDEN ECONOMIC SUMMIT

A one-day maiden Economic Summit organized by Agbado/Oke-Odo Community Development Committee (CDC) in conjunction with Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) with the Theme: “Creating a Landscape for Economic Growth in Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area” was held on Wednesday the 19th of May, 2021 at 168, Ekoro road, Ekoro Junction, Agbelekale, Abule-Egba, Lagos state.

In his welcome speech, the chairman, Community Development Committee (CDC), Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA, Mr. Ernest O. Kasunmu said that the summit would revitalize and renew the commitment to stimulate the LCDA local economies as to benefit the immediate communities and equally address the challenges they face with respect to reducing unemployment, poverty, improvement in infrastructure development within the LCDA landscape.

In his remarks as a discussant, The Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA) Lagos Directorate, Mr. Waheed Ishola who spoke on Re-educating the youths as a tool for galvanizing economic prosperity of the Local Council Development Area (LCDA), a paper presented by Mrs. Amina Yeside Hamza, said that the need to engage the youths can not be over emphasized because they are the leaders of “today” and not of tomorrow. He advocated that leaders should build more on education and do more reward systems to outstanding students (youths) as a way of encouragement. He urged them to begin to identify the hidden talents of the youths by opening up cottage and educational facilities that would enable the youths to showcase their talents.

Speaking further on security, he said that the government at every level should be responsive to the provision of good governance to its people because it will reduce insecurity drastically. Since security and good governance goes together, people would live in tandem with what they see in the area. This, he said, would propel the people to equally pay their taxes as at when due because they actually see what is being done with the little tax collected from them. To this end, he tasked the Local Council to always exhibit whatever development they execute for people to see, even as he urged community leaders to advise and help showcase such developments.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA, Honourable David Famuyiwa thanked all for finding time to attend the maiden edition of the summit which was aimed at consolidating the present gains and outlining the future directions of the Council Area. As a community based interactive forum, he said it would highlight the existing human and material endowments within the Area with a view of harnessing them for economic and quality of lives of the people.

Other discussants at the event were: Hon. Kolawole Taiwo, Member, House of Representatives; Hon. Adewale Jimoh Babatunde, S.A to the Government on Community Affairs, Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Lagos State; Mrs. Iyabo Seriki-Bello, Director Employment, Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment representing Hon. Yetunde Arobieke the Honourable Commissioner amongst others while in attendance were: CDC members across Alimosho Local Government Area; Cross section of Market Men and Women with the Council Area; the League of Imams led by Alhaji Raji Ajani Mohammed; CAN representative, the Siriki Hausawa of Agbado; Traditional Rulers led by Baale Subir Oje; National Youth Council of Nigeria; Media amongst others.
