2022 ELDERS DAY: UI Alumni in Lagos to Honour Elders and Outstanding Members

The University of Ibadan, Alumni Association, Lagos State branch is to honour some of its senior citizens and outstanding members in an event tagged 2022 Elders’ Day.

According to the Secretary of the Planning Committee, Michael Popoola Ajayi, the event is designed to bring together the ancients, medieval, modern and millennial generations of Uites in Lagos together to exchange ideas and also spotlight the contributions of the outstanding members to the progress of the association, development of their Alma Mater and the growth of education in Nigeria as a whole. “We are using this event to honour and appreciate our elders as the torch bearers of the association in Lagos and outstanding members for their contributions. It is a fact that in the face of the recent happenings in the Nigerian education sector, we should also create avenue to celebrate the landmark contributions of some outstanding individuals and also define the roles of alumni associations to its development and growth” he said.

In the same regard, the Chairman of the branch Mr Dauda Folaranmi Salau highlighted the importance of the event, saying it would go a long way in showcasing the contributions of some outstanding members in elevating the association and education sector in general as well as brainstorming on the future of education in Nigeria.

The event slated for October 8 is expected to be graced by a good number of alumni of the University and distinguished Nigerians will hold under the chairmanship of a notable industrialist, Elder Dr. Felix Ohiwerei while the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mrs Folashade Jaji and the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Adebowale will be Special Guest of Honour and Guest of Honour respectively.

Meanwhile, to speak at the event with the theme; “Alumni and the future of education of Nigeria” is the National Chairman, Association of Private Practicing Surveyors of Nigeria, Surv. Thomas Dabiri while Chief (Mrs) Maiden Ibru is to be the Mother of the Day and the doyen of the Nigerian corporate, Dr Pa Michael Omolayole as well as the Olora of Ora Oba Adebayo Akolade are going to be the Father of the Day and Royal Father of the day respectively.
