Migration: Catalonia Government, UNICEF Signed New Agreement as SOAD Youth Minister, Olasubomi Iginla Harps on Support for Young African Migrants
The Honourable Minister of Youth of the State of the African Diaspora (SOAD), Chief Olasubomi Iginla Aina MBE, has been in all fronts supporting African immigrants. Few days ago, she was invited to witness new agreement between government of Catalonia and UNICEF on how best to protect young immigrants from Africa.
The President of UNICEF Catalonia, Jaume Lanaspa Gatnau, signed on behalf of UNICEF, while other UNICEF representatives were present at the meeting.
The Minister of Social Rights, Catalonia, Violant Cervera i Godia; the Minister of Health, Catalonia, Josep Maria Argimon; and Yolanda Lejardi Estevez, the Managing Director of the Catalan Health Institute, all signed on behalf of the Government of Catalonia. The President of United Nations Association of Spain, Eulàlia Pascual Lagunas, was also present at the event, as well as members of the Spanish Press.
In addition, Ariadna Quintero Valderrama, the Programme Coordinator, Human Rights, UN Association of Spain was in attendance.
SOAD Minister of Youth met with the Director General for Foreign Action, who expressed her willingness to work with the State of the African Diaspora. The Minister also had a brief meeting with the President of UNICEF to enquire about the report of the investigation of the Melilla crisis. The Minister met with different civil society organisations to explore the possibility of collaboration towards effective work with the African youth migrants. She later visited one of the centres where the young African migrants were residing. The SOAD Minister of Youth shared words of encouragement with the young African boys at their residence, while preparing more programs of action to support them in the future.
