THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE LAUNCHED A SPECIAL INTERVENTION SQUAD TO COMBAT KIDNAPPING AND OTHER VIOLENT CRIMES IN FCT

By Olayiwola Ibrahim// The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has announced the inauguration of the special intervention squad SIS, at the Police Headquarters, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Kayode stated that the alarming rise in criminal activities without
equivocation, demands immediate and resolute action from us all noting that this initiative will enhance the already robust security architecture of our nation’s capital.

According to him, he said this initiative is envisioned to include a thousand personnel in each state, with
each tactical unit of the Force,
supplemented by a formidable arsenal of operational assets, including
sophisticated arms, drones, and vehicles.

Addressing the officer, he urged members of the squad to work diligently and efficiently with a bold strategy aimed at dismantling the criminal networks
entrenched in all communities as part of their responsibilities to restore peace and order to all troubled communities across the nation.

To all citizens of Nigeria, the inspector General assures that this operation is not a mere symbolic act, but a tangible demonstration of our dedication to your security with recognition on the suffering endured by victims of violent crimes and the anxiety pervading our communities.

Kayode furtherly speaks on the operational move intended to bring a swift and decisive end to this era of terror by collaborating with the military and other security agencies in
ensuring the success, and we are confident that with your support, we
will be successful.

In his conclusions, he added that the SIS operation will engage in community oriented policing by working in hand in hand with community leaders, residents, and all stakeholders with the aim to fortify the already strong bonds between the Police Force and the communities, ensuring that every corner of the FCT remains a safe haven for its habitants.

He extended his gratitude to all who conteibuted to the momentous initiative adding that such initiatives will soon be replicated in states neigbouring the FCT to effectively combat criminal incursions, ultimately extending to all thirty-six states of the Federation.
