Why Lagos Will Prosecute Occupants of Dolphin Estate Bridge Apartments

0

In a bid to uphold the law and ensure the safety of residents in its jurisdiction, the Lagos State Government has vowed to prosecute the ejected occupants of the 86-roomed apartments located under the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi. Following an earlier report by Lagos Reporters revealing the alleged exploitation of tenants and misuse of public facilities, the government is taking swift action to address the situation.

Media  reports had previously exposed how tenants in these apartments were purportedly paying an annual rent of approximately N250,000 to self-proclaimed landlords who were illegally collecting rent from them. However, the latest statement from Kunle Adeshina, spokesperson of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, sheds more light on the government’s course of action.

In an exclusive interview with PUNCH Metro on Thursday, Adeshina made it clear that while the tenants may have been processed through a mobile court, the self-proclaimed landlords responsible for the exploitation will face prosecution. He emphasized that using public street lights to provide electricity to the area was a serious infraction and those involved will be held accountable.

“These individuals will be prosecuted if they have not already been taken to court. We cannot allow such flagrant abuse of public resources to go unpunished. Even though the individuals collecting money from them are not government officials, tapping power supply from street lights is a criminal offense,” stated Adeshina.

He added, “We will not tolerate miscreants taking control of public spaces. The government is committed to reclaiming and safeguarding the area, which was brought to our attention by concerned residents. Rest assured, the necessary steps will be taken to secure the location.”

Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor this developing story and provide updates as the government works towards restoring order and justice in the Dolphin Estate Bridge community. Stay tuned for more exclusive coverage on this unfolding situation.
