Three Arrested for Stealing MTL Cable in Malawi capital city
By Michael Martin/MALAWI// Lingadzi Police Station in Lilongwe has taken three men into custody for allegedly stealing Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) cables worth MK1.4 million.
According to Deputy Public Relations Officer Constable Maria Kumwenda, the police received a complaint from MTL about unknown criminals tampering with their premises and stealing cables.
She said acting on this, detectives launched a manhunt, leading to the arrest of Bernard Sikaliveti, Frank Hajj, and Joseph Phiri. “The suspects were found loading the stolen cables into a taxi at Golden Peacock Hotel.”
The three men have admitted to stealing the cables at City Centre in Lilongwe. They are expected to appear in court soon to face charges. They are:
Bernard Sikaliveti, 30, from Mtambira Village, Traditional Authority Tsabango, Lilongwe
Frank Hajj, 30, from Chikwiro Village, Traditional Authority Chitekwere, Lilongwe
Joseph Phiri, 40, from Malengachazi Village, Traditional Authority Malengachazi, Nkhotakota.
