As the rainy season begins in some parts of Malawi, Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Mia has emphasized the crucial role of clean and safe water in safeguarding public health.

Mia made these remarks in her constituency, Chikwawa Nkombedzi on Monday 2nd December during a ceremony where she distributed borehole accessories to local leaders.

Malawi has been working to improve access to clean water and sanitation, with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation aiming to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which calls for ensuring that everyone has access to clean water.

Minister Mia has been at the forefront of these efforts, working to provide clean water and improved sanitation to every Malawian.

She urged community members to take proper care of the boreholes to avoid breakdowns that might force residents to resort to unsafe water sources.

She also encouraged citizens to register for the upcoming elections to ensure active participation in next year’s polls.

In his remarks, Kaswada Saopa, a representative of Group Village Headman Losi, expressed gratitude for Mia’s efforts to improve access to safe water in the region.

The distribution of borehole accessories is expected to benefit the local community, providing them with a reliable source of clean water.

Minister has consistently demonstrated her commitment to improving access to clean water and sanitation in Malawi.

Her efforts have been recognized by various stakeholders, including Beyond Water, a social enterprise that works to improve access to safe and reliable water in rural communities.
