A shocking incident has unfolded in Lilongwe, Malawi, where Ellina Mwanguku, a 24-year-old manager at Premier Bet’s 6 Miles branch, has been arrested for misappropriating K3 million.
According the Deputy Public Relations Officer of Lilongwe Police, Khumbo Sanyiwa, the staggering amount was squandered through betting on Premier Bet’s Aviator game on Saturday, December 1, 2024.
He said Mwanguku collected the money in the morning and, while seated in her office, began playing the Aviator game in an attempt to generate personal profits without her company’s knowledge.
He added that during an audit conducted at around 13:00 hours, the shortage of K3 million was discovered.
“When interrogated, Mwanguku voluntarily admitted to squandering the revenue through the Aviator betting game,” he added.
“A thorough investigation, which included examining Mwanguku’s cellphone, revealed that she had placed multiple bets of K1 million.
“The evidence gathered has led to Mwanguku’s arrest, and she is expected to appear in court soon to face charges of theft by servant,” said PRO.
