IBADAN STAMPEDE: ACTIVIST URGES PRESIDENT TINUBU TO INTERVENE IN ORIYOMI’S DETENTION

By kayode Adeyemo // A Convener of Anti-Drug Impact Foundation ADIF, Olayiwola Ibrahim is calling upon Mr President, His Excellency Bola Hameed Tinubu to intervene on the release of Alhaji Hamzat Oriyomi over the stampede crisis in Ibadan.
A growing outcry has emerged over the detention of Hamzat Oriyomi, one of the organizers of a recent event in Ibadan that ended in a tragic stampede.
According to the Convener, Ibrahim said critics are alleging a double standard in the application of justice, pointing to the lack of accountability following a similar stampede at a custom yard in Yaba, Lagos, where custom rice was being sold.
Why is Hamzat Oriyomi being singled out for detention when those responsible for the custom rice stampede in Lagos were not held accountable.
Asked a concerned citizen, who wished to remain anonymous.
The Ibadan stampede, which occurred on 18th December 2024, resulted in the loss of several lives and injuries to many others. While the authorities have been swift to detain Hamzat Oriyomi, many are questioning the fairness of this action.
This is a clear case of selective justice, said another concerned citizen adding that the incident was due to Economic instability of the Country.
The government should ensure that all individuals are treated equally under the law, regardless of their social status or connections.
A petition has been launched calling for the release of Hamzat Oriyomi and an end to the double standard in the application of justice.
The petition, which has garnered significant support, urges the authorities to conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the Ibadan stampede.
As the debate over the detention of Hamzat Oriyomi continues to rage, one thing is clear noting that the Nigerian public is demanding greater accountability and transparency from its leaders.
Conclusively, We urge the authorities to reconsider Hamzat Oriyomi’s detention and release him, pending a fair and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Ibadan stampede.
