In a significant move to bolster their collaboration, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, Founder and CEO of Mary’s Meals International, paid a courtesy call to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The meeting, held with Minister Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, aimed to solidify their working relationship and explore ways to expand the school feeding program.
Wirima praised the Mary’s Meals program, highlighting its positive impact on the nutritional status of primary school students.
“This initiative is crucial in addressing hunger and increasing school attendance and participation, especially in rural areas where families struggle to provide sufficient food,” Wirima emphasized.
MacFarlane-Barrow reiterated the organization’s mission to provide nutritious meals to children in schools, helping to break the cycle of poverty.
By addressing hunger, Mary’s Meals aims to create a pathway for education and a better future for these children.
Deputy Director of School Health Nutrition HIV and AIDS, Madam Maureen Maguza, underscored the importance of the Mary’s Meals program in Malawi.
“Providing porridge not only addresses immediate hunger but also contributes to improved concentration and academic performance among learners,” Maguza Tembo noted.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to expanding the Mary’s Meals program, recognizing its vital role in enhancing educational opportunities for children.
Both parties agreed to collaborate on initiatives that ensure sustainable support for this essential program.
