The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal is currently in session in Abuja, focusing on the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, challenging the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Today’s proceedings involve the adoption of final written addresses by all parties, a crucial step before the tribunal delivers its judgment.

Notable political figures have been observed attending today’s session, including former Edo State Governor and current Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and APC State Chairman Emperor Jarret Tenebe .

Their presence underscores the significance of the tribunal’s proceedings to the state’s political landscape.

Additionally, former Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, Hon. E.J. Agbonayinma, Hon. Lincoln Ibie, and PDP gubernatorial candidate Asue Ighodalo have been spotted at the tribunal, reflecting the high stakes and widespread interest in the tribunal’s outcome.

The tribunal had previously scheduled March 3, 2025, for the adoption of final written addresses after the APC concluded its defense without presenting additional witnesses. The outcome of today’s session is highly anticipated, as it will determine the legitimacy of the September 21, 2024, governorship election results in Edo State.
