SULTAN TO ANNOUNCE EID DATE AFTER SATURDAY’S MOON SIGHTING

By Olayiwola Ibrahim // The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), led by its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on Muslims to search for the crescent of Shawwal on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
In a statement on Friday, NSCIA Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, explained that the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC) advised Muslims to observe the moon immediately after sunset.
If sighted, Eid-ul-Fitr will be on Sunday, March 30; otherwise, Monday, March 31, will be the Eid day.
The council urged Muslims to pay Zakatul Fitr, a mandatory charity for the less privileged, before the Eid prayer.
It also encouraged prayers for peace and national development, emphasizing the importance of praying for leaders as guided by Islamic teachings.
Muslims are advised to await the official announcement by the Sultan on Saturday night.
