By Olayiwola Ibrahim // The Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.

The Historica Nigeria reports that the Commissioner of Police,
Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, made the announcement during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday.

Bakori emphasized the importance of ensuring a peaceful and secure environment during the festivities.

According to him, security assessments revealed rising tensions and potential threats linked to the Durbar, which could lead to unrest.

Following credible intelligence reports of orchestrated plans by miscreants and their sponsors to exploit the Durbar for disruptive activities, the Command, in consultation with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders, has decided to prohibit all Durbar activities across the state, Bakori stated.

He assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to safeguard the Eid prayers at designated grounds.

He also urged worshippers to comply with security guidelines, including avoiding unnecessary objects that could raise suspicion and adhering to the strict prohibition of horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving.

Additionally, Bakori cautioned parents and guardians to prevent their children from being used by subversive elements, stressing the need for adherence to public order to prevent breaches of peace.

As we celebrate, let us remember that peace is paramount.

We must put aside our differences and work together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation, he urged.

The Police Command also called for continued collaboration with security agencies and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The ban follows an earlier decision by the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, to suspend plans for the Sallah Durbar in the interest of peace.

Ado Bayero had previously written to the Police seeking security protection for the Sallah festivities.

However, concerns grew over the potential for violence, as the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, also began preparations for Sallah events following a directive from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
