EXCLUSIVE REPORT: WAEC CANDIDATE TRAGICALLY KILLED BY STRAY POLICE BULLET IN OYO STATE, CALLS FOR JUSTICE

The Inspector-General of Police,
Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun,
Sir,
I Olayiwola Ibrahim, Editor of Security Monitor News, hereby writes to express my deepest shock and outrage over the recent tragic killing of an innocent WAEC candidate in Oyo State by a stray bullet fired by a police officer while pursuing a suspect.
This senseless act of violence has left a family in irreparable grief and raises serious concerns about police conduct and accountability.
I urge you to take immediate and decisive action to:
1. Ensure a thorough investigation into the incident and bring the responsible officer to justice.
2. Provide substantial compensation to the victim’s family for their loss.
3. Reinforce strict adherence to professional standards and protocols among police officers, particularly in the use of firearms.
Furthermore, I wish to draw your attention to the alarming rate of police brutality against journalists and citizens.
As a journalist and activist, I have witnessed firsthand the intimidation, harassment, and violence that many of us face while performing our duties many times.
I urge you to take concrete steps to address this issue and ensure that officers respect the rights and safety of all citizens, especially those in the media.
To prevent future incidents and restore public trust, I recommend:
1. Enhanced training on human rights, community policing, and the responsible use of firearms.
2. Strict disciplinary measures for officers found guilty of misconduct.
3. Improved accountability mechanisms within the police force.
I look forward to seeing tangible actions taken to address these critical issues.
Sincerely,
Olayiwola Ibrahim
Journalist and Activist.
