SUBJECT: Urgent Need for Enhanced Building Regulations, Emergency Preparedness, and Modern Firefighting Equipment in Light of Recent Fire Incidents
INTRODUCTION
I, Olayiwola Ibrahim, Convener of Anti-Drug Impact Foundation and Investigative Journalist, write to express deep concern regarding the recent fire incident at UBA Bank on the Island.
This incident highlights the critical need for stringent building regulations, emergency preparedness, and modern firefighting equipment in Lagos State.
PETITION
We urge the Lagos State Government, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Lagos State Ministry of Environment, Lagos State Fire Service, and LASEMA to take immediate action to address the following issues:
1. Building Regulations: Ensure that all buildings in Lagos State comply with international building codes and standards, including emergency exit requirements.
2. Fire Safety Equipment: Equip buildings with modern fire safety equipment, including fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and emergency exits.
3. Modern Firefighting Equipment: Provide Lagos State Fire Service with modern firefighting equipment, including drones, to combat fire incidents effectively.
4. Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement comprehensive emergency preparedness plans, including regular drills and training for building occupants and emergency responders.
5. Increased Funding: Allocate sufficient funds to support fire safety initiatives, emergency preparedness, and modernization of firefighting equipment.
JUSTIFICATION
The recent fire incident at UBA Bank on the Island is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of inadequate building regulations and emergency preparedness.
Lagos State has witnessed an increasing number of fire incidents, highlighting the need for urgent action.

DEMANDS
We demand that the Lagos State Government and relevant agencies:
