Tinted Glass Enforcement: Nigeria Police Must Refocus on National Security Priorities – CONYSSA DG
By Morris Nor// The Director General of the Coalition of Nigerian Youths on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA), Amb. Ade Mario Emmanuel, has called on the Nigeria Police Force to urgently review its priorities and focus on the real security threats confronting the nation, rather than dissipating energy on the enforcement of tinted glass regulations.
Amb. Mario noted that the task of the police is first and foremost to protect lives and property, not to harass innocent citizens on highways under the guise of tinted glass enforcement.
He emphasized that such enforcement has little or no value to the broader security realities Nigerians are facing daily.
“The priority of the Nigeria Police should not be on tinted glass enforcement. It should be on how to withdraw the thousands of personnel who are being paid salaries with taxpayers’ money but are assigned as escorts to individuals and dignitaries who add little or no economic value to our country. These officers must be redeployed to flashpoints where they are urgently needed,” Amb. Mario stated.
He pointed out that Nigeria is currently battling grave security challenges in states such as Kwara, Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Benue, Taraba, Southern Kaduna, Maiduguri, and Plateau, where banditry, insurgency, communal violence, and kidnapping have continued to claim innocent lives.
Amb. Mario added that rather than setting up roadblocks and subjecting Nigerians to harassment, security operatives must be retrained, retooled, and redirected to the real battlefields which is the forests and hideouts where kidnappers keep their victims.
“No kidnapping victim has ever reported being transported through the highways in broad daylight; these criminals operate inside the forests and bushes. That is where the police should focus their energy, not on stopping vehicles for tinted glass checks,” he said.
He further advised the Inspector General of Police to respect and obey the subsisting court order restraining the enforcement of tinted glass regulations until the final determination of the matter before the courts.
According to him, directives must be issued to all Commissioners of Police across the country to halt harassment and intimidation of law-abiding citizens under this pretext.
“Our challenges as a nation are far bigger than tinted glass. The Nigeria Police Force must rise to the urgent task of combating banditry, insurgency, and kidnapping. Nigerians need safer highways, safer communities, and a security system that works,” Amb. Mario emphasized.
The Coalition of Nigerian Youths on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA) reaffirmed its commitment to holding security agencies accountable while working with relevant authorities to ensure that Nigeria achieves a more secure and peaceful future.
