Man arrested in Dowa for killing his brother over food dispute.

Police in Dowa have arrested a 34-year old man on suspicion of killing his younger brother, Clifford Saidi aged 27 following a dispute over food (nsima made from maize flour).

Mponela Police spokesperson, Macpatson Msadala has identified the suspect as Brino Saidi from Kayaza Village, Traditional Authority Dzoole in Dowa District.

According to Msadala, the suspect’s younger brother had prepared chingowe (thick porridge made from maize flour) which Brino ate without permission.

“This led to an argument between the two which quickly turned violent,” he said.

He added that during the fight, Brino reportedly picked up a piece of firewood and struck his younger brother on the head causing him to collapse and die on the spot.

“Realizing that his brother had died, the suspect carried the body and dumped it in a nearby field where it was later discovered in a decomposing state.

“After the incident, Brino fled the scene and was later arrested at Chinkhoma in Kasungu District where he was allegedly attempting to sell the deceased’s bicycle.”

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to answer a charge of murder.
