By Michael Martin//MALAWI
The Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Honourable Bright Msaka, SC, today held a courtesy meeting with a delegation from the International Arbitration Centre of Africa (IACA) who visited to congratulate him on his appointment as Minister.
The meeting took place at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Lilongwe where Honourable Msaka expressed gratitude for the delegation’s warm gesture and recognition of his new role.
During the discussions, Mr. Zhang Zhijie, Chairman of the International Arbitration Centre of Africa, outlined the organisation’s strong interest in investing in Malawi’s education sector with a particular focus on infrastructure development and skills training.
Mr. Zhang emphasised that the proposed partnership seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical experience especially in the field of arbitration.
He revealed plans to construct Technical Colleges to complement Government efforts in equipping young Malawians with vocational and professional skills.
He noted that while universities continue to produce capable graduates, many still require specialised, hands-on training to excel in professional arbitration environments.
Mr. Zhang further announced that a new Arbitration Centre will be established at the Grand Business Park in Lilongwe.
The strategically located facility will enable students particularly those within the city to access world class training opportunities.
It is expected to serve as a regional hub for professional development and international collaboration in arbitration and related disciplines.
Honourable Msaka welcomed the initiative, noting that such strategic investments align perfectly with the Government’s commitment to promoting quality education and preparing Malawian graduates with the practical competencies needed to thrive in the global economy.
