Five killed, one injured in crash at Youth Drive Junction in Lilongwe

Five people died and one other sustained serious injuries following a road traffic accident that occurred last night at Youth Drive Junction near Sanctuary along Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima Highway in Lilongwe.
The deceased have been identified as Gerald Gwangwala (40), a Zimbabwean national and a four-year-old girl, Rolin Kamatenda.
The other three victims two women and a young boy are yet to be identified.
According to police, the accident involved a Ford Ranger Double Cab (registration MG 134 AR) and a Nissan X-Trail.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Wycliffe Liyati (22), a student, was driving the Ford Ranger from Parliament Roundabout towards Kamuzu Central Interchange along Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima Highway.
Upon reaching Youth Drive Junction, the vehicle collided with the Nissan X-Trail, which was turning right to join Kamuzu Institute Road.
The impact resulted in the instant death of Gwangwala, his three passengers two women and a young boy as well as Rolin Kamatenda who was traveling in the Ford Ranger.
An unidentified boy who was also in the Nissan X-Trail sustained severe head injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
