President Professor Peter Mutharika has appointed ICT expert Mayamiko Mkoloma as Acting Director General of the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA).
The appointment takes effect immediately, according to an official statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet.
Mkoloma is a seasoned information and communications technology (ICT) professional with vast experience in both academia and industry.
He is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) where he has been involved in teaching, research and ICT innovation.
Mkoloma has also contributed to several national ICT initiatives, earning recognition for his expertise in digital systems, policy and regulation.
His appointment comes at a time when MACRA is implementing key reforms aimed at strengthening regulation in the communications sector.
Mkoloma takes over from Daudi Suleman who was dismissed from the position two months ago.
Government says it expects the new acting director general to provide stable leadership and guide the authority through its ongoing institutional and sectoral reforms.
