Olayiwola Ibrahim, Investigative Journalist and Activist, has praised Aliko Dangote for reducing fuel prices to N739 per litre at MRS filling stations nationwide.

However, Ibrahim is appealing to Dangote to establish a monitoring team to ensure compliance with the new price across all MRS stations.

Some Nigerians have reported mixed experiences, with some buying fuel at the reduced price, while others claim some stations are still selling above N739.

For instance, a station along Kudorat Abiola Way in Lagos was reported to be selling fuel at N780.

Dangote Refinery has provided a toll-free number, 0800 123 5264, for Nigerians to report any MRS station selling fuel above the approved price.

The price cut has sparked various reactions, with some praising Dangote’s efforts, while others urge him to ensure strict enforcement of the new price.

In order to ensure compliance with the new fuel directive, the Ibrahim, said that, Dangote should consider the following strategies:

Increase Transparency: Publish real-time pricing data on the refinery’s website and social media channels to track compliance across MRS stations and other partners.

Strengthen Partnerships: Collaborate with independent marketers and associations like IPMAN to promote compliance and expand distribution networks.

Enforce Agreements: Implement penalties or sanctions for non-compliant stations, leveraging contractual agreements.

Expand Distribution Channels*: Increase direct delivery to registered stations, reducing reliance on intermediaries.

Public Awareness: Launch campaigns educating consumers on reporting non-compliant stations via the toll-free number (0800 123 5264).

Regulatory Support: Work with authorities to address artificial scarcity and enforce regulations.

Incentivize Compliance: Offer discounts or priority access to compliant stations.

Conclusively, he maintained and urged that collective efforts by the masses will help do a lot stating that if you see something, say something.
