The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) has assured the public of a stable electricity supply during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The power utility says it has put in place measures aimed at preventing frequent power outages during the festive period.
In a statement, ESCOM said it has completed maintenance works on key electricity distribution equipment across the country.
The company explained that the upgrades are meant to reduce system faults and protect electrical infrastructure.
ESCOM added that these efforts will also help to improve the reliability of electricity supply.
To strengthen its response capacity, the company has increased the number of maintenance and repair personnel.
ESCOM said the additional teams will ensure quick restoration of power in cases where equipment is damaged by storms, strong winds, or other incidents.
The company further noted that reduced operations and temporary closures of some businesses during the holidays will lower electricity demand.
According to ESCOM, the reduced demand is expected to contribute to fewer power interruptions.
Meanwhile, ESCOM has advised members of the public to avoid touching fallen electrical equipment and to report such cases by calling its toll-free numbers 2020 or 2030.
