Mzuni student found dead in Mzuzu

A third-year student at Mzuzu University (MZUNI), Gracious Mwandira, has been found dead in Mzuzu.

Mwandira was studying for a Bachelor of Education (Science) under the Faculty of Education at the institution.

According to available information, his body was discovered earlier today.

The body was found near a bridge close to a sewage area behind the Mzuzu University campus.

The location is reportedly near Luwinga Primary School in the Luwinga area of Mzuzu City.

Authorities and university officials were alerted after the discovery.

The deceased was identified through his Mzuzu University student identification card, which was found on him.

Mzuzu University Students Union President, George Kamadya, confirmed that the deceased was indeed a registered student at the university.

However, Kamadya said more time is needed to gather full details surrounding the circumstances of the death.

Mwandira was originally staying in university hostels before the Christmas holiday.

At the time of his death, he was reportedly residing in private accommodation near Paramount Lodge.

This arrangement followed the departure of students for the Christmas recess.

Mzuzu University has since released an official obituary confirming his death.

The university described the passing of Mwandira as untimely and expressed deep sadness.

Funeral services are scheduled to take place on 3 January 2026 at Mwandira Village, Traditional Authority Mzura, in Mzimba District.

Meanwhile, investigations are currently underway to establish the cause and circumstances surrounding his death.
