Wuddeama Manga/ABUJA// An urgent increase in manpower of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps by the Federal Government to enhance the Corps’ operational coverage and effective delivery of its statutory mandate has been postulated as a panacea to tackling the nation’s security challenges.

This call was made by Professor Tyoor Fredrick Terhemba at the Dr. Ade Abolurin (Rtd) Auditorium, NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja during an event commemorating the World Civil Defence Day 2026.

Prof. Tyoor explained that the most vital critical national assets and infrastructure of any nation are its human assets, utilities, and property; he noted that the Corps is at the heart of the protection of these invaluable assets, hence the need to increase the personnel workforce to meet the international standard of policing.

The resource person advocated for an increase in the number of personnel to be recruited, stating that the task ahead of the Corps in line with its core mandate is enormous and requires an upscale in manpower.

Participants’ reactions concerning the lecture show it is the first of its kind in the history of the service, forming part of activities lined up for the World Civil Day 2026, which would climax on Friday with a grand finale scheduled at the NSCDC National Headquarters Parade Ground in Abuja.

In response to the lecture, the NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, lauded the guest lecturer for the incisive presentation.

The NSCDC helmsman corroborated the earlier postulation that to manage environmental risks, there is a need to upscale intelligence, assuring that the NSCDC will not relent in the continuous discharge of its core mandate.
