The Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence [CAIDOV] salutes teachers across Oyo State for their *doggedness, resilience and patriotic moves* as they commence protests today over the abduction of teachers and pupils, and the killing of an educator in recent school attacks.
In a statement signed by *Gbenga Soloki, Executive Director of CAIDOV*, the organization praised the teachers for refusing to accept fear as their new classroom reality.
“We salute Oyo teachers for your doggedness in the face of danger, your resilience after losing a colleague, and your patriotic moves to defend the right of every child to learn safely. By stepping out to protest, you have given voice to parents who cry in secret, to pupils who now fear classrooms, and to the slain teacher whose only crime was protecting his students,” Soloki said.
CAIDOV described the protest as a patriotic duty, not just a labor action. The organization warned that when teachers must take to the streets to demand safety, it means government has failed its most basic responsibility.
*CAIDOV stands with Oyo teachers and demands:*
1. *Immediate rescue of all abducted teachers and pupils* – Treat this as a state emergency with clear timelines.
2. *Justice for the murdered teacher* – Fast investigation, prosecution of killers, and full support for the grieving family.
3. *Full implementation of the Safe School Initiative in Oyo* – Fencing, trained security personnel, and emergency communication for every public school.
4. *Direct dialogue with protesting teachers* – Governor Makinde should meet them, hear their demands, and give concrete commitments.
“Your doggedness reminds us that education cannot survive under the shadow of guns. Your resilience shows that Oyo teachers will not abandon their pupils. Your patriotic moves prove that saving our children is bigger than politics,” Soloki stated.
CAIDOV urged security agencies to protect the protesters and called on the Oyo State Government to respond with action, not intimidation.
“To every Oyo teacher on the streets today: CAIDOV stands with you. Your courage is our courage. Bring back our teachers. Bring back our pupils,” the statement concluded.
