TETFund’s Lifeline: How a Solar Grid and Starlink Revived Osun Tech College
Echono
For years, the Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, battled twin demons that crippled its academic ambitions: an unstable power supply and patchy internet connectivity. Lectures were interrupted, administrative work stalled, and students struggled to access modern digital resources. But a quiet revolution, funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), has changed that narrative, turning the institution into a beacon of 21st-century learning.
In a heartfelt letter of appreciation to TETFund, the College’s Rector, Mr. S. A. Adewumi, detailed how the Fund’s Skills Development Intervention has become a game-changer. The project did not just provide equipment; it delivered a mini-solar grid and Starlink internet—solutions that directly tackled the college’s most fundamental infrastructural headaches.
“These components have enabled our college to address some of its most fundamental power and connectivity-related challenges which hitherto have been undermining critical aspects of learning,” the letter read. The impact has been immediate and palpable. The campus now enjoys independent, stable electricity and high-speed internet, resources that have significantly improved both academic delivery and administrative operations.
The ripple effects are already visible. Lecturers, once constrained by a lack of practical tools, can now deliver industry-relevant training. Students, previously disconnected from the global knowledge economy, are graduating with hands-on skills that make them immediately employable. The college, which had struggled to afford such facilities for years, now boasts a vibrant academic atmosphere where modern learning tools drive overall success.
Beyond the infrastructure, the intervention has strengthened the institution’s capacity to meet current educational demands. The management has praised TETFund’s consistency and reaffirmed its commitment to judiciously managing the funds to sustain and expand these gains.
As TETFund continues its mandate to consolidate tertiary education in Nigeria through strategic project funding, the story of Osun State College of Technology stands as a powerful testament to what targeted investment can achieve—transforming not just a campus, but the future of its students and community.
