By Olayiwola Ibrahim // The Federal Ministry of Works has banned commercial motorcycles and tricycles on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and all bridges across Lagos State, effective this week.

Controller of Works in Lagos, Olufemi Dare, announced the restriction in a statement on Sunday.

He said the decision was taken to prevent abuse and protect the newly constructed superhighway from rapid deterioration.

According to Dare, the measure is aimed at ensuring proper maintenance and long-term sustainability of the road infrastructure.

The ministry also outlawed indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles, as well as illegal dumping of refuse along highway corridors.

Dare described waste disposal on road corridors as unacceptable and warned that offenders would face strict enforcement.

Signages indicating the restrictions have already been installed along the coastal highway.

Task force officials will be deployed to strategic points to monitor compliance.

Dare urged all road users to obey the directives in the interest of public safety, noting that maintaining the facility will extend its lifespan and preserve its value for Nigerians.
