POLICE ARREST 21-YEAR-OLD SUSPECTED ROBBER WITH HUMAN HAND, GUNS IN LEKKI
By Olayiwiola Ibrahim // Lagos // Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old suspected armed robber, Samson Onilewaji, after recovering a suspected human hand, firearms, and stolen items from him on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The suspect was intercepted during a routine stop-and-search operation after officers flagged down an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six occupants.
A search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the discovery of a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one POS terminal, and five ATM cards in Onilewaji’s possession.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, psc, mnips, said the suspect confessed to robbing three individuals recently and taking the recovered POS terminal and ATM cards from them.
Police said efforts are ongoing to identify and contact the victims for return of their property.
CP Fatai added that investigation is also underway to determine the identity of the owner of the severed hand, how the suspect obtained it, and its intended use.
The command is intensifying efforts to track and arrest other members of the suspect’s criminal gang.
The suspect will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations, the police said.
The Commissioner assured Lagos residents of the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime, and urged the public to remain vigilant and share timely information with police.
