Gov. Uba Sani Reinstates 37 Kaduna Workers Disengaged by El-rufai Administration

Governor Uba Sani has approved the reinstatement of 37 Unified Local Government Service workers who were wrongfully disengaged during the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The Chairman of the Kaduna State Local Government Service Board, Professor Aminu Ladan Sharehu, OON (Mutawallen Zazzau), announced the development while presenting reinstatement letters to the affected workers in Kaduna.

Professor Ladan explained that the reinstatement followed the recommendations of a committee established by the previous administration after receiving complaints from the affected workers.

According to him, the committee found that the workers had been unjustly disengaged and recommended their reinstatement. However, the recommendation was never implemented.

He added that the workers later petitioned the present administration, prompting the Local Government Service Board to review the case and forward its recommendations through the appropriate government channels.

Following the review, Governor Uba Sani approved the immediate reinstatement of the affected workers after confirming that they had been wrongfully disengaged.

Professor Ladan disclosed that some of the 37 workers had passed away, while others had retired before the approval was granted. He stated that serving officers would resume duties in their respective local government councils with immediate effect.

He further noted that the retirement benefits of retired workers would be processed, while the entitlements of deceased workers would be paid to their next of kin.

Describing Governor Uba Sani as compassionate and committed to justice, Professor Ladan said the approval demonstrates the administration’s responsiveness to genuine grievances. He also commended the Head of Service, the Secretary to the State Government, the Ministry for Local Government Affairs, and other stakeholders for their support throughout the process.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kaduna State, Ayuba Suleiman, described the reinstatement as further evidence of Governor Uba Sani’s labour-friendly disposition.

He noted that the labour movement had consistently assured workers of the administration’s commitment to fairness and justice.

According to him, the Unified Local Government Service workforce has declined from over 16,000 workers in 2014 to just over 3,000 currently. He expressed concern that an additional 800 workers are expected to retire before the end of the year, urging the government to address the resulting manpower shortage and sustain ongoing reforms to strengthen local government administration.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Kaduna State, Abdullahi Dan Fulani, welcomed the reinstatement and called for the prompt payment of all outstanding entitlements.

Speaking on behalf of the reinstated workers, Michal Anga expressed appreciation to Governor Uba Sani for approving their reinstatement after years of pursuing the matter.

Mrs. Anga said the affected workers resisted calls to seek legal redress, choosing instead to follow due process. She described the governor’s approval as a victory for justice, patience, and perseverance.

The workers also thanked the Kaduna State Local Government Service Board and other government officials for facilitating the successful reinstatement process.
