LEADERSHIP AND ITS DYNAMICS: In Politics, Economy and Other Areas of Human Endeavors’ By Amb. Dr. A. B. Dangana
Leadership is not a position. It is the capacity to influence, guide, and mobilize people toward a shared goal. In every sphere of human life – politics, economy, education, religion, business, and community – leadership determines whether a group progresses or stagnates.
1. LEADERSHIP IN POLITICS
Political leadership is about power with responsibility. The dynamics here revolve around:
– Vision and Policy: A political leader must articulate a clear vision and convert it into policies that affect millions. Example: RENEWED HOPE AGENDA focuses on reform, security, and economic recovery.
– Mobilization: Politics thrives on grassroots mobilization. Leaders who can connect with Gen Z, women, farmers, and civil servants win trust and legitimacy.
– Accountability and Legitimacy: In a democracy, leadership is dynamic because it is constantly tested by elections, public opinion, and opposition. The leader must balance interest groups, manage conflict, and deliver good governance.
– Challenge: Misinformation, godfatherism, and short-term thinking. Effective political leaders counter this with transparency and consistent messaging.
2. LEADERSHIP IN THE ECONOMY
Economic leadership is about creating wealth, jobs, and stability. The dynamics are:
– Innovation and Risk: Business and economic leaders must anticipate markets, take calculated risks, and drive innovation. From cooperatives to multinationals, leadership decides investment direction.
– Resource Management: In agriculture, for example, a leader of a cooperative like Zeenatul Ayat MPCSL, or Women in Agriculture MPCSL, Kogi State Chapters, must manage land allocation, training, funding, and market access for members.
– Inclusion: Economic leadership today must carry women, youth, and rural communities along. Without inclusion, growth is not sustainable.
– Challenge: Inflation, policy inconsistency, and access to capital. Dynamic economic leaders adapt, lobby for enabling policies, and build partnerships.
3. LEADERSHIP IN OTHER AREAS OF HUMAN ENDEAVOR
– Education: Academic leaders shape curriculum, research, and mentorship. Their dynamics involve balancing tradition with new knowledge and technology.
– Civil Society/NGOs: Leadership here is driven by advocacy, service, and volunteerism. Credibility and grassroots connection are key.
– Religion and Community: Moral authority, empathy, and service define leadership. The dynamic is trust – people follow because they believe in the leader’s character.
– Sports, Arts, Media: Leadership is about inspiration and setting standards. One person’s vision can shift culture.
THE CORE DYNAMICS OF LEADERSHIP THAT CUT ACROSS ALL AREAS
1. Adaptability: The environment changes. Leaders must pivot without losing purpose.
2. Communication: From town halls to WhatsApp groups, the ability to inform, persuade, and listen is non-negotiable.
3. Integrity: Trust is the currency of leadership. Once lost, influence collapses.
4. Team Building: No leader succeeds alone. Delegation, capacity building, and succession planning are critical.
5. Service: True leadership is not about being served, but about serving the people.
CONCLUSION
Leadership is dynamic because people, problems, and times are dynamic. A leader in 2026 cannot lead the same way as in 1993. The tools have changed – from rallies to social media, from memos to data – but the principles remain: vision, service, integrity, and the courage to act.
In politics it builds nations. In the economy it creates prosperity. In communities it restores hope.
Wherever there are people with a common goal, there must be leadership. And where there is leadership, there must be dynamics — the ability to learn, unlearn, and lead again.
