IGLSA, SECURITY MONITOR, CAIDOV, Others Congratulate Acting IGP, Egbetokun , Urge him to Prioritize Police Rebranding, Training

As Vice President Kashim  Shettima decorated Kayode Egbetokun with the new rank of  Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP, many Nigerians including Institute, media and CSOs have congratulated the new IGP on his appointment, describing such as a “well deserved appointment”.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had on Friday approved the retirement of all service chiefs and announced substantive officers to man Nigeria security architects.

Dr. Lanre Adebayo, D.G, Institute of Governance and Leadership Studies in Africa, IGLSA in a statement hailed ‘Mr. President for fixing a round peg in a round hole”. Dr. Adebayo maintained that the security endowment of the new IGP is more needed in Nigeria now that the country is battling with more sophisticated threats like kidnapping, banditry and other forms of terrorism”.  The DG charges IGP Egbetokun to engage the force in more trainings and retraining so that they can be up to the task.    

 Dr Adebayo wants the IGP to see his appointment as a service to humanity and use the good office to rebrand the image of the Nigeria Police Force.

In a related development, Wale Abydeen, Publisher of SECURITY MONITOR expresses optimistic that the country’s security apparatus is in the save hands with the emergence of Mr. Egbetokun as the IGP. In a statement obtained from Abydeen, the media practitioner noted that ”Egbetokun’s predecessor had laid a good foundation for good disciplinary system against corrupt officials but efforts is required on the part of the new IGP to ensure police officers stop any form of abuse of police powers which incidentally was the cause of recent revolt tagged; ENDSARS“

A Lagos based civil society organisation, the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Gbenga Soloki, described the newly appointed Acting IGP as a super cop who has demonstrated uncommon commitment to his job as a police officer and a patriotic Nigerian.

While congratulating Egbetokun, the CAIDOV boss commended him for his exploits in the past, where he has had course to lead, urging him to build on the experience garnered over the years to ensure he restores the image of the police with the public and the global community.

According to the group “we want to felicitate with the new Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Kayode Egbetokun on his well deserved appointment. As a diligent and highly cerebral police officer,who has distinguished himself in previous places, where he has operated in the past, we are confident he will make a success of the office of the IGP”

” Much as we are sure of his competence, we will not fail to remind him of the onerous tasks ahead, so we want to urge him to put machinery in motion , the process of restoring the battered image of the police, especially in Police/ Civil Society relationship , discipline and most especially corruption”

CAIDOV however promised to continuously monitor the events, especially as it relates to policing to ensure due diligence this time around, while wishing the new IGP, a successful tenure of office.
