Kwara NUJ vows to weed out fake Journalists
The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kwara State Council, Comrade Abiodun Abdulkareem, has vowed to weed quacks out of the state.
He also called on his members across the 11 chapels in the state to promptly pay their Check off dues and Professional fees for the smooth running of the union.
AbdulKareem, who spoke on Tuesday at the inauguration of the new Executive members of the Radio Kwara Chapel of the union, lamented that non- practicing journalists were using the union’s Identity cards and stickers, claiming to be members of the union.

He described such act as impersonation that will not be tolerated in the profession, adding that the Council would partner with the law enforcement agencies to curb the activities of the impersonators.
At the election conducted by the state’s Executive Council of the Union, Mr.
Bashir Ademola Jimoh was re-elected the Chairman of the Union, Mrs. Mariam AbdulKadri-Yusuf emerged as the Vice Chairman, while Mallam Mahmood Olayinka Alaya was elected as the new Secretary of the Chapel.
Other officers elected were; Mrs. Medinat Yusuf as the Assistant Secretary, Mr. Abdulhameed Alaiye, Treasurer and Mr. John Adewoye as the Financial Secretary.
The state’s NUJ Chairman, however, charged the new executive members of the chapel to discharge their duties in line with the guidelines of the constitution of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
The General Manager of Radio Kwara, Alhaji Abdullateef Adedeji, who was represented by the Secretary of the Corporation, Alhaji Ola Saad, called on the newly elected chapel’s officers to eschew radicalism while agitating for the rights of their members.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman of the Chapel, Alhaji Bashir Ademola Jimoh, promised to run a transparent and participatory administration and assured that new programmes would be embarked upon to improve the Internally Generated Revenue of the Chapel.
