LASTMA OFFICER VICIOUSLY STABBED WITH BROKEN BOTTLE BY REBELLIOUS COMMERCIAL BUS DRIVER, OFFENDING VEHICLE IMPOUNDED AT OJOTA, LAGOS
By Olayiwiola Ibrahim // Lagos // The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) strongly condemns the heinous assault on one of its officers by a defiant commercial bus driver at Ojota Interchange, Lagos.
The incident involved a Caravelle GL Volkswagen bus EKY 693 YK, intercepted for operating with its passenger door open while carrying commuters, endangering lives.
The driver resisted arrest, attempted to escape, and when foiled, brutally stabbed an officer with a broken bottle, causing severe injuries.
The officer underwent surgery and remains under medical care.
The offending vehicle was impounded, and investigations are ongoing.
LASTMA GM Olalekan Bakare-Oki vowed to prosecute the perpetrator, warning against violence towards traffic enforcement personnel and urging commercial operators to comply with traffic laws.
This cowardly act will not be tolerated,” Bakare Oki said.
We will work with law enforcement agencies to ensure the perpetrator faces justice.”
The agency will intensify enforcement to safeguard public safety and uphold regulatory discipline in Lagos.
Acts of lawlessness will attract a firm response.
LASTMA appeals to the public to report any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect.
The agency remains committed to protecting its officers and ensuring a safe environment for all road users.
The injured officer is receiving support from LASTMA and the Lagos State Government, and wishes for his speedy recovery have been expressed by colleagues and the community.
