By Tope Sunday, Ilorin
After one year on the run, Kwara State Police Command has arrested a notorious thug, Ariyo Olatunji, declared wanted by the police in connection with the attack on some National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officials at Idi-Ape Quarters of Ilorin in February, 2015.
SECURITY MONITOR recalls that Ariyo’s boys allegedly prevented NDLEA officers from arresting some suspected Marijuana smokers at Idi-Ape quarters, which later led to fracas.
It was reported that Ariyo in company of his accomplices laid siege on the Agbarere family residences of the two officials of the NDLEA who were part of the operatives that raided the deadly spots.
In the ensuing fracas, guns and machetes-wielding thugs allegedly from Idi-Ape quarters went on a shooting spree with destruction of any valuable property at sight.
Our Correspondent gathered that the ring leader, who had since gone into hiding and reportedly took refuge in Ghana and South Africa respectively was placed on a wanted list by the Police.
However, a security source told this medium in Ilorin on Tuesday that Ariyo was arrested at Oke Oyi in Ilorin East Local Government Area of the state around 2:00pm on Monday, where he had visited some of his friends.
It was also gathered that the wanted suspect was arrested by the officers and men from the Criminal Investigation Department(CID) of Kwara State Police Command.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO) of the state police command, ASP Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed Ariyo’s arrest, adding that he is under police interrogation.
He said Ariyo was among the suspects in the police wanted list in February this year.
