Indications have emerged that the Ogun State Government would return mission schools in the State to their original owners.
Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa who gave the indication during a meeting with some Christian religious leaders who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abeokuta said Government would not handover the schools in a hurry, noting that it would ensure all necessary measures were put in place for a successful handover.
The State Scribe who described his visitors as “partners in progress” enjoined them to be patient as Government was also making efforts to have an enduring structure at the end of the ownership transfer exercise.
“When the schools were returned to their original owners before we came on board, it was hastily done without taking cognisance of due process. That is what we are guiding against. We are trying our best to follow due process”, Adeoluwa said.
Adeoluwa who noted that the State had the largest concentration of mission schools in the country, assured the religious leaders that as soon as all necessary procedures were met, Government would not hesitate to return the schools.
Speaking earlier, leader of the delegation who is also the President, Ogun Baptist Conference, Rev.(Dr) Segun Jayesinmi commended the State Government for its efforts at rebuilding the State, especially in the area of provision of qualitative education and construction of model schools across the State.
