Breaking: Police officer kills colleague, trader in Port Harcourt
A police officer in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, went berserk on Thursday morning and shot dead his colleague and a trader at the oil mill market.
Mr Nnamdi Omoni, Rivers command’s spokesman, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) could not immediately confirm the story to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He promised to call the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Area and get back to NAN.
But as at the time of filing this report he was yet to call to confirm the story, just as a source at the scene of the incident told NAN that an argument had broken out between the two police officers.
According to the source, the trader was hit by the stray bullet from the aggressive police officer.
The police have arrested the trigger-happy cop and picked the body of the policeman killed.
In another development, the State commissioner of police, Mr Francis Odesanya said the command had arrested 41 persons for their alleged involvements in armed robbery, kidnapping and cult activities.
Addressing reporters, Odesanya said 22 of them were arrested for cultism; 15 for kidnapping, while four were being held for robbery.
He said the 22 cultists belonged to different cult groups, among them, the Ice–Lander, Axe, Vkings and Dey-gbam that unleased mayhem on the State.
The commissioner said some of the suspects were members of a gang that killed an Inspector of police and took his riffle at Kpor in Gokana local government Area.
Odesanyanoted that communities that were victims of the mayhem, were now living in peace since the arrest of the suspects and said some of them had confessed to the crimes.
He said investigations into the crimes had commenced.
According to the commissioner, six persons were rescued from the jaws of the kidnappers.
He warned criminals to either relocate from the State, repent or get ready to face justice.
