PDP chair not for Southwest: Dokpesi

In a statement likely to create some political irritation, Raymond Dokpesi, an aspirant for the National chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) has debunked the wide notion that the position has been preserved for the South West geo-political zone.

The media mogul who is from Agenebode, Edo State, in the South-south region of Nigeria, said he is still in the race.

Dokpesi stated this on Sunday while speaking with newsmen in Nasarawa, Nasarawa local government area of Nasarawa state.

He said that the National leadership of the party zoned the National chairmanship position of the party to the southern geo-political zone of the country as it also allotted the presidency to the Northern zone of the country.

“I think the media are helping to confuse the matter regarding the National chairmanship position of our great party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as there was no time that the national party or leadership of the party at the national level ever zoned the chairmanship position to any body.

“The chairman of the party Care Taker Committee made it clear that just like the presidency is zoned to the three geo-political zones in the North for 2019 election, so also the National chairmanship position is zoned to the three geo-political zones in the South.

“That was the position that was sustained and maintained up till the convention time in Port Harcourt and Iam contesting for this position so as to unite all members of the party so that the party can come out stronger and victorious in 2019, “he said.

Dokpesi also said that PDP is the only party that can provide support as well as make the Nigeria economy stable and great and urged Nigerians to support the party for the overall development of the country.

“I believe PDP is the only party that can provide support, really deal with the challenges of unity and stability of the country as the past PDP successive government kept the country together and by the time, we return in 2019, we will have a better Nigeria.

He called on the party supporters and others Nigerians to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and not to allow themselves to be used by selfish individuals to forment troubles in the society.

The National chairmanship aspirant enjoined Nigerian to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation for the overall development of the country.
