By Olayiwola Ibrahim // A leading Pro-Democracy group, Kwara Must Change has carpeted students of Kwara State University, Makete, over what it described as anti social behavior.

The group also said that the management of the institution is complicit in their students behavior, which many now consider as dangerous, not only to the students and the institution, but also to the university’s host community.

While reacting to the recent incident of students attack against police, as a result of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA! invasion of the school over activities of suspected drug abuse and fraud on its popular radio program, Eto Wa on Sobi FM over the weekend, the group said that some students in the school have grown audacity in drug abuse and fraud, both of which are not only criminal behavior, but characters capable of jeopardizing the future of the Youths.

Recall that 48 KWASU students were arrested for alleged cybercrime by EFCC in the past week and some aggrieved students of the Kwara State University also attacked the divisional police station in the town after a raid on suspected black spots by operatives of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency around the school premises.

Kwara Must Change guest, Yusuf Moyosore lamented the deteriorating antisocial behavior by the students, noting that the management of the university is also complicit by not leading the efforts to address the issue before security agencies took unilateral decisions.

According to Yusuf, Kwasu management ought to complement efforts of security agencies by identifying the key suspects, sanctioning them and handing them over to the security.
He said the university is training students not just for learning, but also for character and what some Kwasu students are portraying is short of acceptable standard in character.

Another guest, Kamaldeen Dare Babasiga, who frown at protest against NDLEA which some students undertook with placard carrying inscription such as say no to NDLEA noted that in time past, students do protest to say no to drugs, but it is an irony that the situation has deteriorated to an extent that students are now openly saying no to NDLEA.

Babasiga opined that, the state government, especially the Kwara State House of Assembly should provide a legal framework to enable government deal decisively with the situation at the Kwara State University.

Babasiga also noted that, what is happening at Kwasu is not limited to Kwasu, other higher institutions are also facing similar challenges and they all need to be handled on time before things go out of hand.
