PROFESSOR NUHU OMEIZA YAQUB :THE INTELLECTUAL UNIFIER GOES HOME

By Wale Abydeen/ABUJA// The University of Abuja on Saturday announced the passing of its esteemed former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nuhu O. Yaqub, OFR 2004 -2009.
Yaqub passed away Saturday morning in Abuja, after a brief illness at the age of 73.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May Allah grant him jannat ul firdaus, ameen.

Born on March 3, 1951, in Okene, Kogi State, Nigeria, is a distinguished academic and administrator renowned for his contributions to higher education in Nigeria.
He attended his primary school education with Nural Islamic School, Okene 1959–1965 and proceeded his Secondary Education at School for Arabic Studies, Kano 1967–1971 and finally further his Tertiary Education at Advanced Teachers College, Kano 1973–1976.
In addition, he proceeded to Bayero University, Kano 1977–1980. And later University of Toronto, Canada 1982–1983.

International Summer School, University of Oslo, Norway 1990.
Speaking on his Academic and Administrative Career, Professor Yaqub’s academic journey began at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, where he held various positions:
He Graduated as an Assistant Lecturer 1982–1986. Then as a Lecturer II in 1986–1990 and later became Lecturer I in 1990–1993.
He finally became a Senior Lecturer and Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Administration from 1993.
He served as Acting Head of the Department of Political Science 1993–1997 and was a member of the university’s Senate and Governing Council.
In 2004, Professor Yaqub was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, a position he held until 2009.
Professor Yakub became the Founding Member, Board of Trustees, and President of the Executive Board of the Society for International Relations Awareness SIRA, from 2010 to 2020 and as a Member of various academic and professional bodies, including the Nigerian Society of International Affairs and the African Association of Political Scientists.

Professor Yaqub is married to Moolikat Oyebola Oyetunji since 1982, and they have three children.
