BREAKING: FORMER FCT MINISTER, LT. GENERAL JEREMIAH USENI, DIES AT 82

By Olayiwola Ibrahim // The Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has announced the death of Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni (rtd.), a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
General Useni passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 82, following a prolonged illness.
In a statement issued in Jos, Governor Mutfwang described Useni’s demise as a significant loss not only to his immediate family but also to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the nation at large.
The passing of General Useni is a tremendous loss.
His tireless efforts to promote peace and security, especially in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State, will forever be remembered, the Governor said.
General Useni had a distinguished career spanning military and political service.
He served as Nigeria’s Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT.
In his political career, he served as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and later represented Plateau South Senatorial District in the Senate under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.
Reflecting on Useni’s personal virtues, Governor Mutfwang described him as a man of compassion, kindness, and generosity.
His legacy of selfless service, profound contributions to the military and politics, and his dedication to the well-being of others will endure in the lives of those he impacted, he remarked.
The Governor extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the Armed Forces, and the nation.
On behalf of my family, the government, and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, i extend my deepest sympathies to the President, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the immediate family, and all those mourning the loss of this distinguished elder statesman.
Lt. General Jeremiah Useni will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to service, his role in promoting peace and security, and his immense contributions to national development.
