Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has suspended the Acting Head of Service, Salisu Mustapha, over allegations of salary deductions and non-payment of salaries to some civil servants.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Thursday in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, Mustapha has also been directed to step aside from his position as Permanent Secretary, Establishment, under the Office of the Head of Service, to allow for an investigation into the matter.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountability, warning that any official found guilty of financial misconduct would face serious consequences.
“We have zero tolerance for any form of financial malpractice, and anyone found culpable will be held accountable,” the governor stated.
To ensure the smooth functioning of the civil service, the governor has approved the appointment of Malam Umar Muhammad Jalo, the Permanent Secretary of REPA, as the new Acting Head of Service, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Meanwhile, an investigative committee led by Abdulkadir Abdussalam has been given seven days to probe the allegations and submit its findings.
“The committee will work diligently to uncover the root of these financial discrepancies and recommend appropriate actions,” a government official disclosed.
Mustapha was appointed Acting Head of Service earlier this month following the medical leave granted to the substantive Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, who is currently receiving treatment in India.
