The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has welcomed key members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), including relatives of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and members of the Kwankwasiyya Ulama Forum, as they defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Among those who joined the APC were the governor’s brother, Mahbub Nuhu Wali, along with Malam Yahaya Abdulkadir Aliyu, Secretary of the Kwankwasiyya Ulama Forum, and 23 executive members of the association.
Senator Barau described the APC as “the largest party in Africa” and reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Kano State.
“The two groups discarded their red caps, the symbol of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, during their visit to me at the National Assembly on Friday,” he said.
Following their meeting, the new APC members accompanied Senator Barau to the A-Class Event Centre, where they joined a coalition of Atiku Abubakar’s support groups from across the 19 Northern States in defecting to the ruling party.
The formal defection was overseen by the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Additionally, two NNPP chieftains from Gwale Local Government Area, Mahmoud Salisu Gwale and Farouk Ahmed Gwale, were also received into the APC.
Senator Barau emphasized his inclusive approach to politics, stating that his doors remain open to all Nigerians, regardless of their party affiliation.
“As the Deputy President of the Senate, I want to emphasize that I am a Senator for all. Regardless of your political background—whether PDP, LP, Kwankwasiyya, or APGA—I am here to serve you,” he said.
He further invited more Nigerians to join the APC, calling it “the people’s party.”
