The Malawi National Teacher Policy is set to transform the teaching profession and raise the quality of education across the country.

Speaking during the National Teacher Policy Validation Meeting held at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe, Dr. Zizwa Msukuma, Director of Teacher Education and Development in the Ministry of Higher Education described the policy as a critical step toward addressing longstanding challenges in teacher development and support.

“This policy will create a strong framework that empowers teachers, improves learning outcomes, and ensures quality education for every Malawian child,” he said.

Dr. Msukuma praised all stakeholders involved in the policy development process, acknowledging their shared commitment to advancing the education sector through teacher empowerment.

The Malawi National Teacher Policy was developed in collaboration with UNESCO and the Norwegian Teacher Initiative. It aims to professionalize the teaching workforce and bring coherence to teacher development across pre-primary, primary, secondary, and teacher education institutions.
Key objectives of the policy include improving teacher deployment and management, creating supportive and motivating working environments and promoting equity and inclusion in education delivery.

The policy is expected to serve as a guiding framework for sustained improvements in teacher preparation, support, and retention ultimately contributing to better learning outcomes nationwide.
