In the buzzing streets of Area 21 in Lilongwe, a new sound with melody is rising that carries the honesty of struggle, the confidence of youth and the rhythm of a dream taking shape.

Her name in music circles is Feb Karma, born Abigail Bickiel and at just 19 years old, she is fast becoming one of the most talked about young voices in Malawi’s hip hop scene.

Speaking in an interview, she emphasized that music has been a part of her life since she was a kid.

She said: “It is something I have always loved.”

From her earliest days, Feb Karma felt a deep connection to music a force that guided her through both joy and hardship.

“What began as a childhood passion has blossomed into a mission to make art that heals, empowers and connects,” she said.

Karma added that launching a music career was anything but easy.

For Karma, the early days were full of excitement, but also exhaustion.

She said the hustle of building a name from scratch tested her patience and belief in herself.

“Starting my music career felt like starting a whole new life .

“There were times I doubted myself, but my love for music kept me going,” she admitted.

Said the artist each small victory became a reminder that persistence pays off.

The young artist recently dropped a freestyle that went viral, earning her over 2,000 new followers an achievement she calls a huge step in the right direction.

For Karma, music isn’t just about fame or applause but it is her therapy and her lifeline.

She said, “Singing helps me mentally and keeps my self-esteem up,”

“It’s like therapy. It keeps me grounded.”

Her songs often reflect the emotions and lessons of real life, transforming vulnerability into strength.

In a genre often dominated by bravado, Karma’s openness gives her music authenticity and soul.

When asked what it takes to make it in the industry, Karma answers without hesitation.

“You need passion, dedication and resilience,” she said.

“Confidence in yourself and your work is key because there will always be doubts and challenges along the way. And patience is important too. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

That grounded wisdom sets her apart. Despite her youth, she approaches her journey with the calm determination of a seasoned artist, choosing growth over shortcuts and integrity over trends.

Balancing music and personal life has been one of Karma’s biggest lessons.

She told us that she learned that protecting her peace is essential to creating her best work.

“I make sure to keep my personal life and career life separate,” she said firmly.

“Giving each its own space helps me stay sane and do my best in both areas.”

It is a discipline many older artists struggle to master yet Karma handles it with poise.

“I try not to date at the studio,” she adds with a laugh. “That’s my workspace, and I don’t want the two mixed up.”

With her growing fanbase and unique style, Karma’s ambitions are only expanding.

She dreams not just of dominating Malawi’s hip hop scene, but of making her mark internationally with fabulous English lyrics.

“I want to keep making music that impacts people and makes my fans proud,” she said.

“Hopefully, I can break into the international market as well.”

It’s a bold dream but if her trajectory so far is any indication, it’s one well within reach.

What makes Karma stand out isn’t just her music, but her message.

She’s proof that passion and patience can coexist and that true artistry comes from authenticity. In a world that often chases trends, Karma is building something timeless.

“Be patient and stay dedicated,” she advises other young dreamers.

“Believe in your talent, even when things get tough, and don’t be afraid to take risks to grow.”

Though she is only just begun, Karma’s presence already feels significant.

Her story one of self belief, balance and heart resonates deeply with a generation learning to navigate its own creative battles.

Music, for her is more than a career. It’s her compass, her voice and her gift to the world.
